so it fits tight into the pump with no sloppiness, correct?
and could you tell me what the belt size is?

Yes, the shaft should fit tight into the pump.

Here is what Maytag says about the belts for this model, so you do need to make sure you have the right one.


"Reassembly of Pump and Belt

NOTE: Install pump and belt together. Drive belt MUST
be replaced with belt No. 40053602 for one and
two speed models; or 40053601 for some two
speed models and three speed models (special
clutch-type belt) for proper washer operation.

Refer to Parts Manual for proper belt part
number."

I would order a new belt from APP, if you have both your model number and serial number they should be able to get you the right one.

Ok, the new motor didn't change things, now that I know what the belt size is supposed to be, it's stretched about 1 inch over size, is this something that could be the problem or is there another reason why machine doesn't seem to be rotating fast enough to pull more of the excess water out of the clothes. Running them through another spin cycle leaves them soppy wet.

Get the right belt. It will either fix things or you will be able to rule out the belt as a problem.
