Please be sure to check that your cord connected at the dryer has nutral in the middle or at the white wire ... Then make sure no leads are not grounded to the dryer frame or eachother ... Then reset your breaker at the breaker pannel.

Tell me about this pop you herd ... how long did the dryer run after replacing the cord ... I say all this to say that GE puts a switch on the belt idler and if it was your belt that snapped and made the pop sound that switch will be in the open position and your dryer will not start even though it has 240 volts goin to it.

Alot of times when a breaker pops, visually it will look as if it didn't pop ... To be on the safe side, flip the breaker back and forth to make sure it resets.

If you have a volt meter you can check for 240 at the wall outlet ... you should get 240 across the two diagnal inlets and 120 from each diagnal to L shape inlet.

I had an electrician hat when he was here fixing my light switched the other day t he just did not know anything about dryers. How do you get the back off to check the drum to see if that switch is open?

If you open the dryer door and look up in the door housing you will see two screws ... If you remove them two screws you will be able to lift the dryer top exposing the belt around the drum ... If the belt is missing you know thats the problem ... You can also check the door switch at the same time ... With the dryer unplugged you can test to see if the switch is open when the door is closed.
