If it sounds as if it is working but you just don’t get any heat most of the time it is the magnetron tube. If it is louder than normal the problem can be the capacitor or the diode. The capacitor doesn’t give a lot of trouble and if the diode is bad I recommend changing the magnetron tube. If you have a good ohmmeter you can check the diode but a lot of cheap meters won’t read diodes. Set the meter to the highest setting and check for ohms across the diode. It should be open one-way and high resistance the other (around 50,000 ohms or so). Often a bad diode will read low resistance both ways. To check the capacitor unplug the wires and place the leads across it. The meter will read at first then go to nothing. Then if you reverse the wires on the ohmmeter it is do the same. If not the capacitor is bad. This page will help you replace the magnetron GE Spacemaker Microwave Magnetron Tube Replacement This page will help diagnose further Microwave Repair Guide
