fills with water, agitates but DOES NOT spin or drain.

motor hums with no movement

gave the belt a little help and it will agitate but not spin.

took front off and the belt moves freely in one direction and a little more resistance in the other direction.

I can here the door switch click when opening and shuting.

what next?

If it starts up and runs after you turn the belt then the most likely problem is the motor, it has start windings and run windings and the start windings may not be working. It could also be the start switch.

Given the age of the machine and the cost of a motor I suggest you consider a replacement with a basic top loader.
