I have a GE GSH25SGPASS side by side refrigerator. In the past few days, it hasn't stopped running. Even if I turn the thermostat all the way to the warmest setting it doesn't shut off. Both sides seem to be cold; it just won't stop running. I've looked at the damper mechanism between the freezer and fridge and it seems to open and close normally.
What can I check/repair/replace to fix the issue?
Thanks very much!

Do you have a thermometer to actually measure the temperature in the freezer? Can you see any frost on the back wall inside the freezer?

Are you able to remove that rear panel and look at the coil behind it for frost build up? Do you have a meter to test continuity with?

Yes, the coils are completely frosted over from top to bottom.
I don't have a meter to check continuity (I'm not sure what that is as it applies to refrigerators).
Thanks again.

Okay, so that is why the long run times. You will need to totally thaw the coils out to restore operation. The most common cause of that issue is a faulty heater. Once the frost is clear, you will see a glass tube at the bottom of the coil. Does that glass look dark or burnt at any section?

hmmm, actually the glass tube does look like it's dark and burnt at both ends. it's also very cloudy and sort of a greenish color in the middle.
