After the drying cycle, the buzzer goes off normally. When opening the door the buzzer stops, but then resumes when the door is closed. Also if you open the door during the drying cycle, the heat and drum rotation will stop when you open the door, but will restart without pushing the start button when you close the door. Any suggestions on what the problem may be? Thanks...

You are still missing part of the model number.
Kenmore numbers are usually 3 digits, a period and then another 8 digits.

The first 3 digits actually tells you who made the unit as Kenmore does not make the machines.

Here is what the sticker inside the door says:

MODEL/STOCK NO.
96589210 65892

No other numbers except the serial no.

Searching for "80 Series" brings up a 110 prefix so I think the model is a 110.96589210.

Here are your parts

Unfortunately I cannot find a wiring diagram for this unit so have to do some guessing.

You may have two problems in the unit.

First unplug the unit and one wire at the push to start switch.
Measure the switch. It should be infinite ohms and then drop to 0 ohms when pushed.

The motor has two centrifugal switches on it. One is for the heating coil. The other is for the start winding disconnect and a start switch by-pass. They are activated when the motor gets close to operating speed.

When you push the start switch the motor runs the centrifugal switches close. Now one of them is for an alternate (parallel) circuit for the start switch. This lets you release the start switch and the motor keeps running.
Since your motor starts running without pushing the start switch odds are that it is shorted.
