tried to remove burned out bulb - broke away from the base. I now have the base stuck in the socket - how do I remove this base as it is impossible to see what to do.

First off be sure to disconnect the power. Then use a pair of needle nose pliers to unscrew the base out the socket. Microwave Repair Guide
