Sears tells me that it will be about $500 to put in a new tub kit. It is worth it? Can I expect this model to have another major problem very soon? I thought we'd get more years out of this washer, as we are a household of two, but Sears advised me that they are "not being built like they used to: because people won't pay the real costs associated with a good machine. If I need to buy a new one, what can I expect to pay for a machine that will last?

Did you pay more than $500 for that washer new? I am not sure what you got (because you model number didn’t show up) but most washers don’t cost more much more than that. Unless you have a really expensive machine I wouldn’t put than much in it. For do-it-yourself appliance repair help visit Appliance Repair Guide For All Major Home Appliances

Perhaps the model was sold only in Canada? I paid about $1100.
