Hi all,
Last week my freezer had frost all over it and the fridge was warm. I figured this to be a classic case of ice building up, so I defrosted the freezer (manually). Since this happens often, I also did a continuity test on the Defrost heater, hoping this was the issue since it's a simple fix to replace. But no, the Defrost Heater worked great registering a steady 34 Ohms on the multimeter.
Anyway, I put the freezer back together again, assuming that the frost would come back, but at least the fridge would cool off again. No such luck. Now even the freezer isn't freezing (my ice cubes are all melting).
So what's next in the debug process?

tx! adam Adam, Did you check the defrost thermostat for an open or closed circuit (open circuit at room temperature, closed circuit below 35 to 40 dgrs). are you sure you have all the wires properly seated and attached, you didn't knock anything loose, etc.? You could have an issue with the defrost timer or ADC board(Adaptive Defrost Control) Depending on the model number(You forgot that), get us a model number and we can verify your defrost system, and advise you from there. :) :) :)

Hi, sorry I forgot the model number. It's KTRP20KDAL 02. Best I can tell nothing came loose ... I double checked everything before I put it back together. Something is definitely wrong cause as I mentioned, I go through this process about once a month. But this is the first time it didn't go back to being cold ...

Ok then, Thanks for the Model number and better explanation. Based on the new information, Replace the defrost timer Part number: AP2984369
located inside the refrigerator control panel. Thats the more likely issue at this point. Thanks :) :) :)

Thanks, but is there a way to test this before ordering? I'd hate to spend $45+shipping on part and then find out that it wasn't the problem.

tx! adam Adam, Here is the defrost timer circuits and test procedures. Being an intermittent problem, I hope something shows up for you. Disconnect all wires from the timer and attach ohmmeter probes to the terminals specified in the accompanying chart. If no continuity is indicated, the timer is defective.
To Test Turn Timer Knob to Check Between Terminals Timer Motor Cicuit Leave as is 1 & 3 (black to red) Defrost Circuit 1st Click 1 & 2 (black to pink) Compressor Circuit 2nd Click 1 & 4 (black to orange)
You can also run Voltage checks from the timer terminals to chassis ground, if needed to verify power in and out of the timer assembly, then move the the individual components using the same method. :) :) :) :)
