I have a GE Refrigerator refrigerator that is cooling properly after I cleaned the condensor coils and replaced the Defrost Heater. I was wondering why it seems like the refrigerator is running all the time now though! If anyone knows why my refrigerator is running constantly please let me know and I will order the part to fix it.

Is it reaching the proper temperature. Check the temp. If it is it could be the cold control. Turn it to a warmer temp to see if it cuts off.

The defrost timer works manually to turn on the defrost heater. You can see the glass tubes turn red and defrost the evaportator! I also replaced the thermostat. The only thing left is the cold control and the defrost timer. Which thing do you think is causing this refrigerator to run continuously. I there any way to test the cold control and defrost timer.

It does reach the proper temperature but it keeps running. The compressor and fan just run and run and run. Freezer is 0-5 degrees and the cold compartment stays around 35 degrees. I need to know what part will be needed to tell the compressor and fan to turn off!

If it is refrigerating properly with proper airflow and it’s running continuously the food in the fresh food section will freeze. If this is the case replace the cold control. If not take a look at the controls if the freezer control is set too high it will block some of the airflow to the fresh food section causing a long run time. Some people are saying that it might be the motherboard but this model appears to not have a motherboard. I checked all over the back of the refrigerator and nothing exists in form of a cover for the motherboard. I am leaning more towards the cold control because I got up this morning and it was 20 degrees in the cold section and I turned the temp control down and the compressor and fan still kept running.

The model number starts with tfx means that its too old for a mother board. If it is that cold in the fresh food section the cold control is bad.

Thank you very much for your help! Between You, me and a gentleman I called we have concluded that the cold control is bad. Luckily Cashwells is about 30 minutes from my house and I will be picking up the part tomorrow. Hopefully by Monday afternoon my refrigerator will be back to normal for about 100 dollars to fix counting the heater and thermostat I bought friday. I hope that the rest of your day is blessed. I wish I could order my parts through appliance parts pros but I need the part by tomorrow. I have already gone without my refrigerator for 4 days and need it back immediately. This is a wonderfurl forum and would recommend it to anyone. Thanks again applianceman!
