Can you hear the compressor running or tell if it is hot or cold to the touch?

Is the panel at the back on the bottom, inside the freezer cold? Can you hear a fan running inside the freezer?

Okay, so if the fan is running, the compressor should be running. Can you feel it vibrate at all? On the side of the compressor is an electrical component that starts the compressor. If the compressor is warm but not vibrating, that part may be faulty. Can you tell if the compressor is vibrating at all?

Okay, so if you unplug the freezer and remove the electrical box on the side of the compressor (it will pull off) and shake it, does it rattle?

Okay, that is not good. Since the compressor is warm, we know it is getting power. Since it is not running, the compressor may be bad or that starter may be bad. Usually, when they fail, they will rattle, but not always. Do you have a meter to test resistance with?
