Magic Chef Furnace - probably 1983 model in attic. When heat shut down, will not restart because pilot has gone out. Reset Pilot and works fine until heat shut down. Tired of lighting pilot. What is it?

I have no tech info on this unit and probably will not be able to find any even with a model number.
At the top of my list would be the thermocouple.
Remove it at the gas valve and check/clean that end. Also look inside the valve where it connects to be sure that the connection in the valve is clean, sometimes they get a light brown or grey coating. If dirty clean it with a small piece of sandpaper or emery cloth. Be gentle.
If it looks clean, I would replace it |
