Hi Gene,

Sorry it took me so long to respond but when I moved out the fridge I noticed that I can't open the back panel. Is it possible that the temperature control could be on the fritz? Please advise.

In case you forgot (since I took so long to respond - sorry) the original problem with my fridge is that the freezer works fine but the fridge is warm (55-60F). I can feel cool air come in with the freezer door open but when I close it I can't feel any cool air in the fridge. I've tried playing with the controls by moving the fridge all the way to 8 or 9 (highest) and the freezer as well but that hasn't been helping so I moved them both back to 6. There is a little frost on the back panel of my freezer so I'm not sure if it's a defrost issue BUT when I opened the area where the temperature control is located I didn't see anything wrong with the defrost control (then again I'm not sure what I would be looking for).

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I was just hoping to avoid having to call the GE repairman in so any words of widsom would greatly be appreciated.

I meant the rear panel IN the freezer (#201 on the diagram), not on the back of the refrigerator.

According to your description there is a problem with the air flow from the freezer into the fresh food compartment. I do not think it has something to do with the temperature control.

Thanks for the response! I'm taking it apart now. Will write back in a minute. What to do if the coils are frozen?

More like a hard snow on the coils. It's not really under the coils.. just frozen on it. I melted some off with a hair dryer and it melted quickly but it didn't clear up totally yet.

Do not rush with the parts. Perform the troubleshooting first. The defrost timer is the last part I would think about.
