Gene - You were absolutely correct. I installed the new hi-limit thermostat, and it works like a champ now. Thanks a bunch for your help. I've learned a lot about gas dryers now, hopefully more than I'll ever need again. Take care, and thanks again.

Hi Gene,
Glad I found this forum. I am having kinda similar problem with my gas dryer. But mine seems to actually heat up for the first 5 minutes and it will just blow air the rest of the time. My wife when drying had to set it as a timer or it will just keep blowing air. In addition, it would not heat up if I immediately turn it on again. It would start heating up after taking a short break (20 minutes). I have not taking it apart yet to test, but have cleaned out all the extra lint on the vents and vaccumed out everything from the inside of the dryer all the way to the vents outside of the house. Please help me find the problem.
My Gas dryer is Whirlpool model LGR4634JQ2. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There are five major electrical parts involved in the heating process:
1. Thermal fuse
2. Cycling thermostat
3. Igniter
4. Flame sensor
5. Gas valve coils
How to find out which part causing the problem?
Pretty simple: all of these parts have to be tested for continuity in the above sequence.
gene, i replaced the igniter for an older Roper gas dryer, but still not heat. where are the thermal fuse and cycling thermostats located?(I didn't know to check those first.) I don't have a manual or diagram to refer to. the model number on the Roper is rgl3612bw2

Hello.
Our gas dryer has stopped producing heat. We took off the back of the dryer and cleaned out the lint section. We thought it might be plugged. It wasn't the problem. We always keep the lint trap clean.
The dryer used to make a noise when the gas started. Now there is a noise but it is different. It's kind of sqeaky sometimes and sometimes just a quiet sound.Do you think it may be a problem with the gas line?
Other than taking off the back, we have no idea what else to do.
Where are the parts to check located?
Please help. We've never done any repair work before. Thanks

John John, Most likely the problem is a bad gas valve coils (#13 & #14 on the diagram). - The coil kit Part number: AP3094251

If it's open, replace it together with the cycling thermostat (#8) and make sure the vent is completely open through the outlet. - The thermal fuse Part number: AP3132867

Whirlpool Dryer Model Number LGQ8858JQ1 Sounds like the problem with your dryer is very similar to the problem described in the RebelBs post. You also have to check for continuity the thermal fuse (#7 on the diagram) first. You have to have a simple ohmmeter to perform the troubleshooting. To replace these parts, do I remove the back of the dryer? Replacing the igniter was the first time I've done a repair on an appliance of this size. Not sure if I'm going in "over my head" at this point.
