spin cycle goes completely out of balance on heavy loads. checked the six springs, all are attached and in good condition. there is about 3.5 inches of play at the top of the basket. mounting brackets at bottom seem to be okay. what should i look for next?

You will need to replace the snubber. Use my procedure in the general topic area. Good luck, keep us informed.
