I have a Kenmore 80 Series Top Loading Washing Machine that is having an issue that I have not been able to diagnose. The Washing Machine Model Number is 110 26882503. The Serial Number is CT 1340564 Type 111.

The washer tub fills with water fine but then does not transition to the agitation cycle. After the tank is full to the selected load level, the motor just humms and after a while throws the circuit breaker for the wall outlet.
When I change the dial setting to rinse / spin, the tub drains and the spin cycle works just fine.

The Agitator dogs seem to be fine because they catch properly.

I have replaced the Lid Switch and the Motor Coupler but the problem remains -- the agitator cycle does not function and the motor humms.

Can you tell me what the problem might be or what I should do to diagnose the problem.

Thanks for your response. The dial does not seem to advance automatically once the tub is filled. The motor simply humms until the wall power circuit breaker trips. Does that indicate that the timer is more likely to be the problem?
