hello

i have a GE profile oven model PGS968SEM11SS. about 2 weeks ago the touch screen turns on all by itself. the buttons seems to be random...and includes sometimes the oven lights. when this happens, the touch screen is locked out and no matter which button you press, nothing works. after about 15 secs or so ( whiles its waiting fro you to press start) it will time out and turn itself back off. even at this time when it is off the touch screen may not function. at times the turning on and off happens all night long. fortunately the oven itself has never turned on...that is it never gets to the point where there is heat. every now and then i go and test the touch pad and some times it will function ok. when it does work, its usually after a long period where the turning on/off hasnt happened for a while. my friends has come to look at the oven and hes narrowed it down to 2 possible things....
he thinks that the touch pad itself may be faulty or its the control ERC. since these part arent cheap, i would prefer to buy only 1 item. i hope you can help narrow down the cause of this.

thank you

I have the same problem - the oven turns on by itself. No error codes. It wants you to press start. This is the second gas range. And each have had the control pad changed twice.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

this happened even after the repair dude replaced the computer and the touch panel....twice.

after the second set of replacements....about a week later..it mysteriously stopped and hasnt done it since.

the repair guy claims that a voltage drop can cause these issues. he actually checked it and showed me it was way below voltage. my friend who is a license repair guy check it told me that what he did was BS and he probably shifted his fluke meter to the wrong setting so it would show a dip in voltage. he felt he did this cause in reality he didnt have an answer to the problem.

im mystified???!!!

Separate the burner ignitor wires from the control module to the cooktop from any other wires nearby you can get interference that will cause this to happen........ i've seen shortwave radio's nearby cause this to happen in the electronics for gas ranges as well when a neighbor uses his short wave radio the frequency would mess with the neighbors main board on there stove..........try separating the wires first by taking zip ties and wrapping all the white wires that lead to the your ignitors and get them away from the main harness..........try that first and tell me your findings after you do.....Good luck
