Regardless of the cycle (even when set on Low Knits) the dryer heats to excessive temperatures. It may just be that the cooldown cycle is not working. Is there a switch or sensor that can be checked, adjusted or replaced to solve this problem?

I would replace the cycling thermostat on the blower housing AP3131939. The output temperature of the drye should be around 145-155 degrees. If the top of the dryer is getting very hot, you probably have clogged ducting.
