Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 11/12/2011(UTC) Posts: 4		Old Kenmore top bottom fridge. Compressor does not run until I slap my hand on the bottom of the top freezer. Gets cold then warms up again. Symptoms seem to point to a bad defrost timer. Can someone tell where the part is located on this model? Thanks

Sounds more like a control thermostat problem than a defrost problem. Next time it happens jiggle the temperature control back and forth a little if it fires up I would replace the thermostat. Part number: AP3120051

Is the the cold control that is the thermostat? Of course it is still running now and I can't try the moving the thermostat.

I do not know what they call the controls but it is the one on the left. The other one opens/closes a damper which regulates the amount of cold air entering the fresh food compartment.

As soon as I figure out how to take the control panel off, get to that part, and see how to replace it I will order it. Thanks again

Took only one day to get it even with the standard shipping from Appliance pro. Installed it when I got it. It has been working for 24 hours so I assume it is fixed. Thanks a lot. I will not hesitate to use or recommend you guys in the future.
