This sounds like a top loading clothes washer? Many of these units have spring type clips that hold the top in place (it looks kind of like the spade on a playing card when you get it uncovered). They are usually reached from the front of the washer a few inches in from each corner. Try sliding a putty knife into the space between the top and the front. When you locate the fastener, locate the putty knife centered in the sprint loaded fastener. Push in on the putty knife while lifting on the front of the top. It should lift up is you are pressing the spring properly. The top should then lift like it is on a hinge. Some models have screws on the back of the head piece where it connects to the back of the body before it will hinge. Check yours. Some have short or fastened wire harness, be careful as you lift the top. To put the top back, position the washer top on top of the spring clip and press down firmly (or hit the top with your hand) and it should snap back in place Hope this helps

You have to remove the washer cabinet. The instructions are attached to the replay. - The part number for the lid switch is AP3100001Gene.
