There is arcing (bright flashes of light and sparks) from the coupler on the floor of the microwave. The coupler is like a tiny turntable that revolves with the glass plate on it. It is now charred. Is this something I can replace myself? Will the cost of a repairman be more than the microwave is worth? It is 10 years old. Thanks.

You can remove the existing coupler by pulling it off the motor shaft. You must remove all carbon buildup and repaint any exposed metal or you will have arcing again.
