This is a Whirlpool top loader. Over 15 years old. I'm having trouble removing the front panel. I take out the two screws on top and the top tips forward, but the bottom does not come loose. (It pulls free from the locators as it tips forward) Should the bottom slide straight out? Or must the front panel be lifted to get the bottom free? Or is there another catch or fastener involved right at the bottom? Or is it just wedged and jammed?

Dean,
Once you have the cabinet leaned to a 30 to 40 dgr. angle , you should be able to lift or slide the cabinet forward a few inches and off the base frame,
Components inside the washer cabinet can be accessed by completely removing the outer cabinet as one unit.
1. Remove the console mounting screws and tilt the console into the service position.
2. Unplug the lid switch harness connector from the receptacle in the washer top.
3. Remove the cabinet mounting clips by placing the flat blade of a screwdriver in the clip..
4. Remove the cabinet by tilting it forward and pulling it away from the washer.

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

Thanks, but you are referring to newer models on which both sides and front are in one piece. The older LPR6244ANO has a seperate front panel.
You could see it in appliancepartspros web site.

Dean,
Now that I realize we're working on a "portable" washer, You access the interior components from the top, or from the bottom. There are no front panel removal instructions.

I don't recall a mention of what components you need to access, but here's how to access the upper control and mechanical components.

Electrical Shock Hazard
Disconnect power before servicing. Replace all parts and panels before
operating. Failure to do so can result in death or electrical shock.

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Turn off the water supply to the washer.
3. Tape the lid of the washer closed so it does not open when you handle the top cover in the following steps.
4. Pull the washer away from the wall so you can access the rear of the unit.
5. Remove the two 5/16″ hex-head machine screws from the back of the top cover.

6. Lift the rear of the top cover and push it forward to unhook it from the front.

7. Rotate the front of the top cover up, and rest it against a wall.

8. Remove the two 7/32″ hex-head screws from the component cover.
9. Using a putty knife, pry up on the cover and release the four tabs of the component cover from the top cover. Rotate the cover down so that it lays on the top of the cabinet.

Good Luck and Thanks,
:) :) :)
