My whirlpool dryer would not start so I read some of the tips on some of the other postings and saw that it is probably the thermal fuse, but it said that if you replace it then you should probably replace the operating thermostat at the same time. My question is that I have 3 different thermostats on my dryer. 1) thermostat, internal bias 2) thermal cut-off for heating element and 3) thermostat, fixed Which one is considered the operating thermostat? :confused: Thanks

You are right about the thermal fuse, and the thermostat being changed at the same time, but that is not your problem. In the back the is another thermal fuse. It is white in color, and about an inch and a half long, by a half inch wide, and has 2 wires coming to it, and it is held in by 1 screw. That is most likely the problem. If not, it would be a door switch, or a bad breaker. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Thanks so much for your help :) I ordered the thermal fuse, replaced it and now my dryer is working like a charm! I live in the country and if I would have had to have a repair guy out it would have cost me a fortune, but with your help I was able to fix it myself! Thanks again!

My whirlpool drier wouldn't start either. Replaced the thermal fuse ($25 later) and it runs as good as new. Very easy to replace! Thank you Tom and Sacey!
