Hi. We bought this washer new in 1994 and have not had one single issue with it. Yesterday it had a strong burning rubber smell and it would not agitate. It spins and drains normally and the motor spins easily. We replaced the belts but that did not fix the problem. The transmission pulley pulls easily in one direction but is very stiff and has a slipping feel to it when pulled in the opposite direction. Is this a problem with the brake or the transmission itself? I understand that it could be a costly repair but I hate to junk such a reliable washer. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated! :o
Thanks, Amy

It sounds like a transmission problem, and I understand you are reluctant to part with it, but you have more than gotten your money out of this machine.
Sometimes it is just time to let it go. Besides a new washer is a nice congratulatory present to yourself for getting so much use out of your old one.
