i went to turn on the cooktop light and the bulb made a pop louder than when a light bulb normally goes out. i got a new bulb and it still doesn't work. i checked the voltage to the socket and have 2 volts all the time. nothing changes when i push the off/low/high button. everything else works fine. any idea or help would be greatly appreciated.

You got a model number? Sounds like a dead short. These are sometimes caused by critters. A model number will help us to see how your model is wired.

Ok. I'm a little confused. I thought you were referring to a vent hood light. Did you check the circuit breaker? Have you checked all the other functions of the microwave? Do you have power to the display? Will it accept cook commands?
