Hello i have a older ge dryer the thing wasnt heating right so i took it apart bypassed the switch and turned it on to see if the heating element was not working. Both coils heat up , the top one stays on and the inner one goes out real quick, and they both quit working if i move the dial a bit either way. Even on timed heat it only works in a little section of the dial. I noticed it has three thermostats, well i think there thermostats. So my question is: is my timer bad or one of those thermostats. And i was wondering how i go about testing them. EDIT: my bad i just saw your post about testing continuity. i still need help though lol.

Thanks in advance

Some of those GE timers are very easy to fix. If your dryer has the timer with the 2 quick plugs on it, get the timer out of the dryer without being electrocuted. Remove the 2 screws that hold the timer motor on the timer plate and carefully take the cover off. Get a fingernail file clean the points. Put the alabama gloss and the mississippi shine on them electrical contacts. She will probably work beautiful. If not get another timer. But try filing the points on that puppy first. :D
