First time poster here, and read every thread pertaining to my problem, with no resolve. Here’s the issue: My wife turns on the dryer and here’s a “pop”. The dryer works fine but the timer will not advance, even in timed mode. So I decide (based on the threads here) to buy from APP the timer and the sensor/LED/Chimer board to be done with this. However, after looking up my dryer, there seems to be 3 different timers for this machine. So I call APP and give them my S/N ( 24238191ET, which indicates a series 24, made OCT 2004), and they tell me I need the timer AP4042974 (33002855). Fine. I received the timer today but there is a fourth row pin where my original didn’t have one. The S/L/C board shipped to me looks correct AP4044037, (33002905). So I called APP and they said I may need AP4042962 (33002808)and a new wiring harness 33002809. Confused, I called Maytag and they said I need timer AP4042973 (33002854) and wiring harness 33002755. I then went to another parts online store and they showed 5 different timers. WTF? After looking at a bunch of Maytag service upgrade docs (thanks to this web site) I see there was a separate sensor board and chime that was combined and required a new wiring harness, however this doc came out before my machine was made and I have the combined unit as well as the new harness doc that shows three contact rows for the timer, which I have. My harness now has a P/N of 63406940 and the wiring diagram taped on the machine’s console says 63406740 if that helps. Does anyone know what timer I have ( the maytag numbers on the original don’t seem to mean anything to anyone I talked to) and what the correct replacement is? This is driving me nuts. I really don't know the answer to your questions. I did look up your model no. at my parts supplier and any machine after series 19 should take part no. 33002855. I hope that helps.

This is one of the problems I always had with Maytag. Too many part numbers for virtually the same machine. Thank goodness Whirlpool bought them out. Oh and the other thing was putting numbers on parts that mean nothing. You just got to love the old Maytag.:rolleyes:

I don't blame you. Its a shame they haven't got some kind of instructions that tell what the difference is and what should be done to fix it.

I wish I could see this thing for myself. Its hard to imagine how its wired from what little I've seen. I hope this info helps.

Wanted to wait a while before updating, to be sure. I received the 33002808 (series 16) timer last Friday. Same amount of pins on the connector and all the stops ( clicks) in the same place as the original. So, I put it in and lo and behold, it works! My wife has used it for six loads so far without any problems. The 33002855 was definitely wrong. I can't speak for anyone with a different series, but I hope this helps anyone with a MDG8400 dryer with a series 24. Also, I did not need to replace the wiring harness, as recommended. Thanks to TG for his help and APP for their great customer service and super fast shipping.
