I have Appliance Rescue coming out tomorrow for a $20 estimate on the total repair cost. Let me ask you if the keypad and the control board get replaced should this oven be good to go for another 10 yrs? What else is common with going out on a Whirlpool Dual Electric Oven?

You have things like the elements and the temperature sensor.

Cannot make a prediction on getting another 10 years out of it. What usually happens is the parts become unavailable and you are forced to replace the unit.

When you get your quote make sure it is for the repair and not just replacing a part. What can happen is they replace the keypad and then say we also have to replace the board so what you end up paying is double the estimate.

Also get the parts priced out seperately. Then you can look them up on this site to see the difference.

Thanks for all of your expert input on my oven problem. i will let you know what the estimate is and next steps.

Before the interjection from Mr. Denman, I had explained to you that you should replace the keypad, and that you might have to replace the control board too. The problem is, laymen read these tech data sheets, that are not accurate, and don't tell you everything. When those ribbons crack as Mr. Denman has exclaimed, alot of times you don't see it because it is internal. When the connection is not good to the control board, you can also weaken or compromise conponentry on the control board. So, the gist of this rambling is after many years in the service business, my advise to you is replace the touch pad, and you might have to replace the control board. If you put in the touch pad, and it works, you should consider yourself lucky. But just know you might have to replace the control board. Also if you don't get this oven fixed your wife will go out and buy a new one. So get it done, and quit jacking around for the cheap fix, because there is none. Good Luck. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Thanks for the information. And I am not looking for the cheap fix I am looking for the correect fix. If I can save a few bucks or do it myself then great. Anyways if I need to replace both the keypad and the control board, $500 is better than $1300 for a new oven.

There is nothing wrong with looking around for a cheap fix, I do it all the time.
The operative word here is FIX.
If things had worked out a little better you would have saved a considerable amount of money, at the very least the odds of you getting ripped off are considerably less with the knowledge you now have.

Denman, in my opinion, which is just my opinion, I have done all the things that you suggested many years ago, and it always seemed I had to go back and make the repair. Now on a control board, that is a different thing. You can replace a diode, a relay, or whatever, but on a touch pad, it really doesn't last. Plus, I am a tech, and you know that, But, my customers want it fixed immediatley, they don't want me to try this and try that. So I apologize for my abruptness. When I see people jacking with something for a week, I just want to scream, replace the part. I'm hungry, I want some baked Chicken!!! LOL!!! You know what I mean? Your Buddy!! Tom :D

OK, so the tech. comes out from Appliance Rescue and I tell him what is going on and he tells me that I need to replace the keypad. The cost will be $168 for the keypad and $89 for his 40 min. of work. Is there anything special I need to know before I replace the keypad myself? Is the keypad retained to the plastic frame with some type of adhesive?

Disregard my last post. I just looked up the part. Part number AP3131916 is the complete plastic cover w/ keypad. Should be a no brainer. Thanks for all of your help.
