I am getting a E0 F2 error on the display which from my research turns out to be a shorted keypad. I reset the breaker and still get the same error. Could this possibly be a bad connection. What basic troubleshooting steps could I take to determine if the keypad or control board are bad?

1. check keypad connector for firm connection (keypad connects to control board).
2. press cancel. if error code returns after 60 seconds, replace keypad (also called touch pad or membrane switch). some models incorporate keypad in to control board as one unit. in this case, replace control board (also called erc or clock). that is what the manual say. if that don't work replace it. tom

OK thanks. I removed the ribbon cable connector from the control board cleaned it and re-installed and I am now getting an E1 F2 error which is keypad keytail not connected. I did it again and I am getting the same error so between the E0 F2 and E1 F2 everything points to the keypad so that is most likely the culprit, correct?

I would try disconnecting/reconnecting it again.
The two errors you see are opposites
E0F2 is saying that a key is shorted.
E1F2 is saying you have an open, the keypad is not connected.
So something weird is happening.
How did you clean your ribbon cable?
You want to get to a point where you get a consistent error code.
RIBBON CABLE CLEANING
Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try. |

I removed the control board last night and cleaned the ribbon cable connector and the connector on the board. After I put everything back together I had no power. I took the board out again and noticed a loose connector (P16) and a loose resistor (R188). I re-soldered them to the board and will install tonight.

I soldered everything up and installed the board, flipped the breaker and I have power but I am still getting the E1 F2 error (keypad not connected). Since I am not getting the E0 F2 error (shorted keypad) maybe I have a bad ribbon cable from the kepad to the connector which would mean a new keypad, correct?

Yes if the ribbon cable is bad you willl need a new keypad.
Sometimes you can see cracks across the tracks on the ribbon cable, a magnifying glass helps here.
I am not on my own computer right now so do not have the links I need to find out if there is a diagnostic that willl help narrow down whether it is the control board or the keypad.
It can be either one so is a gamble. |
