The handle on my microwave door cracked. I purchased a new handle and can not figure out how to replace the cracked handle. There are three screws on the side of the door, which I have removed. That did nothing. There are two hinges on the inside of the door that seem to need to come off. Please help!!! I am getting really frustrated.

THANKS!

For help taking the door apart, see a short video clip on the second page of this thread (link).

Gmelkin,

No need to get frustrated, we'll sort this out real quick.

#2 clips onto the door frame. Using a table knife or something similar (nothing sharp) remove #2. This will expose a couple of #8 screws that hold the handle. Remove the screws. Put the new handle on and secure with screws. Put #2 back on. You should be good to go.

Here is a short clip that shows how to remove the inner door panel on most microwaves. Hope it helps.

Let us know how it turns out...

I have the same question with a Kitchen Aid microwave but slightly different model which is KHMS155LSS0-0. I also see the same three screws on the side of the door but do not see any removable clips. Does my model have different instructions for removing/replacing the handle?

Thanks

Mark,

I didn't mention any clips. What I was trying to say was #2, which is the inner frame, clips on to #4, inner door. Your model may have different components in it, but the door is the same. See diagram below:

Gmelkin,

Were you successful in replacing the handle? When I follow the instructions given it feels like the something is going to break seeing how it is all plastic. My model number is different than yours but the diagram is identical. I am just leaving slight gouge marks in the inside of the microwave.

Did you get it to come off? I have a Whirlpool that is similar but I can not seem to get the panel off. it has tabs every few inches.

You do have to be very careful, because the inner frame is plastic, but it should come off. Slide the table knife (or something similar) in every inch or so and pull the panel out.

This is the way to do it, promise :)
I've replaced dozens of handles myself.

I had attempted the technique that you had posted before I located this site, but was reluctant to exert force for fear of breaking the plastic. I interperted you slide out reference as pulling away from part #4 since I do not see a way for part #2 to slide in any direction. I hope that I don't wind up buying a door in the process of doing this.

If you view my response and have any further suggestions, please contact me

Thanks

MarkJ-

I have the same model (KHMS155LSS0-0) with broken handle. I also have a cracked panel where the three screws on the side of the door screw in.

Need a supplier for the parts...any recommendations?

Were you successful in removing and replacing the handle?

Thanks!

Installation: The instructions which come with the part say "simple installation". While this is far from accurate, if you show a little patience and care you can save $$ on installation charges. The door assembly parts are what I call a "press fit". If you carefully force the issue by gradually working a thin screwdriver along the edge of the assembly, you will be able to separate the inside of the door frame to expose where the handle is actually attached to the outside of the door. The exploded assembly drawing is accurate in terms of the components/pieces involved.

I would also caution you to take care with the position of the glass. Once you remove the rear frame section, the glass may fall out of position. The method they used to retain the glass was poor at best. Now that I am aware of this, I would know to watch out for this event! I avoided breaking glass, but the reverse could have easily happened.

The design engineer DID NOT have the average home do it yourselfer in mind on this handle. There are also a number of ways they could have constructed the handle to avoid this flaw.

Good luck!
