I am looking for any assistance of the weekend installation of an Oven igniter for a GE Spectra XL44.
The repair service said my part would be installed in 3-5 days. That was 10 days ago. The have no explanation. So I just ordered the part from this web site and I should have it tomorrow. I am looking for any and all advice on the job.

Remove the wire racks and the oven floor. Remove the flame spreader (#219 on the break down diagram, section 1). Remove the storage drawer to get access to the wires. Locate two igniter wires and disconnect them (possible one of them should be cut off). Remove the bake burner with the igniter. Replace the igniter and assemble it in reverse order. - Here are the break down diagrams for the GE range Model JGBP35BEA5BBGene.

Thanks to Gene's help and the writers in other people's questions my oven is working again. After 10 days of waiting and no explanation I told the repair service I would find another repair method. I had the part over-nighted and repaired it in about 15 minutes. I will recommend this site to one and all.

Can you be more specific on the problem?
What is the complete model number of the unit?

Do I need to shut off the electic and gas connection to the oven before attempting the repair?

Electric - yes, gas - no, if it's just the igniter.

CFBeebe should be glad the GE repairman did not show up. We were not so lucky. He came today, stayed 20 minutes, installed a new igniter and charged us $249. Invoice said $179 for the igniter and $140 for service.
Curious. What did you pay for your igniter?

I just replaced the burner ignitor in my GE Spectra with the help of this thread, however when I turned it on, the ignitor remains lit when I would assume it would shut off. This is causing a red-orange flame at the ignitor when everything else is blue flame. Does the ignitor stay on until pre-heated or should it turn off after a certain period of time?

The oven igniter stays ON as long as the control calls for heat. Gene.
