Gene. Thanks again Gene ! Hopefully the shorter time translates to Longer Life. Apparently this is a common failure part.

Sorry for the delay, but the setting change helped with the cooling of the refrigerator section, and a thermometer did show temperatures in the correct range. I tried to tweak the settings a little bit, and that seemed to get the freezer operating very cold again. The dial thermostat control does not feel right for the freezer section, it does not rotate smoothly, like the one for the refrigerator section. So I am not sure that the setting is what the dial shows. The freezer section temperature is at -15, and seems to be running constantly.

What are the current temperature settings?
-15°F for the freezer is too low. The normal temperature us about 0°F.

Gene. Warmest for freezer, 4 for refrigerator. It was working okay for a few days, freezer was warmer with no frost, but started acting up again. The freezer tempearture knob is not easy to operate, takes a lot of force to turn either way.

Gene. Perhaps I should keep a replacement thermostat ready when I check? Are there two thermostats, one for the refrigerator section and one for the freezer section, with the capillary wires routed to different places? Part number comes up as Whirlpool 2198202, is that correct? Thanks for your help.

There is now a 2 tube heater available for my model. In your experience, is this a better option vs the single tube ? I've now replaced the heater twice in 9 years. Gene wrote:Yes, the double tube kit is much better. It provides better defrost for shorter time.
Gene. Hi Gene, finally getting around to post the before and after pics. The new double tube heater came with an extra length of wire, which wasn't needed for my GE SbS. The blue wire on the left was more than long enough to reach the heater, so it was an easy install. Took about an 1 1/2 hr to empty the freezer, disassemble all, defrost w/a hair dryer, install new heater, reassemble all and restock food. Thanks again for all your help!! ment2b attached the following image(s):

You probably did not read carefully my post on the previous post. There is only one thermostat and it reads temperature in the refrigerator. By moving the second knob you adjusting the air flow from the freezer into the refrigerator, mechanically open and close the window between these two sections. Gene.

Looking at the picture I don't see where the second tube is installed. It should be mounted somewhere in a middle of the coils.
The coils are looking pretty shine with no any frost on them. Is this correct?
Gene.

Gene. Gene, I'm assuming you're responding to my pics. If so, there are 2 tubes, but they are both in one bracket (WR51X10101) and mount the same as the single tube. Not in 2 locations. There's no frost in the 2nd pic because the freezer is defrosted and not yet plugged in. Shine is from the camera flash and the little "tinsel" stuff wrapped around the tubes. ment2b attached the following image(s):
