My dryer was working fine yesterday, but today I put a load in and pushed the button it wouldn't start and the light went out. I still hear the timer. I checked the breakers, no problem there. Please help.

The first thing I would check is the connection of the power cord to the dryer for burned wires.

i don,t know how old this dryer is, but I would check the door switch and lever behind the door, make sure it makes a clicking sound . Then check [if it,s a old dryer]the belt, if the belt breakes the idler pulley drops down an hit,s a belt kill switch, this will stop the motor. Try that after you check the voltage.

It is a very old dryer. Voltage checks out and it is getting electricity to dryer. The switch behind the door does not make a clicking sound. I pulled the top off to check the switch behind the door and it is getting electricity to it. The belt appears intact. I did not feel any tears, areas of wear or nicks.

I've tried to find the wiring diagram for your dryer and I could not. It is very hard to diagnose the problem without the wiring diagram, but the first thing I would check is the thermal fuse and the hi limit thermostat. Check them for continuity and replace if any one is open. When you buy the thermal fuse, it comes as a kit, consists the thermal fuse and the hi limit thermostat. The thermal fuse kit - The part number for the thermal fuse kit AP415996 P.S. If you have the wiring diagram and can post it, it may help. Gene.
