Gene,

Update: I reconnected the ribbon cable from the Membrane Switch to the Display Board as well as the power cable connecting the Power Board to the Display Board. No change, fridge still malfunctions as before.

I then measured some voltages with a GE2524 digital multimeter and got the following measurements with the common (COM) probe of the multimeter connected to the Black wire of the cable between the Power Board and the Display Board:

5.06 VDC at Green wire connection point
5.06 VDC at Natural wire connection point
varing between 4.02 - 4.82 VDC at Red wire connection point
NOTE: Above readings were taken with the Display Board connected to the cable between the PB and the DB.

4.65 VDC at Green wire connection point
5.07 VDC at Natural wire connection point
varing between 4.02 - 4.82 VDC at Red wire connection point
NOTE: Above readings were taken with the Display Board disconnected from the cable between the PB and the DB.

Do these measured readings appear okay/normal as you would expect and I just need to proceed with replacing the two boards you referred to earlier in order to get the fridge working again or does it appear something else may be causing the fridge malfunction?

Also, how do I safely go about removing the Membrane Switch from the plastic housing it is installed in/attached to without damaging either item?

Sorry for the long winded post and TIA for your assistance in the matter!

Regards,
Gary

Thanks for your inputs! I originally tried to remove both of these two items, mainly the Control BD when I first started troubleshooting the issue. Maybe I didn't reinstall them correctly. I'll check them first and reconnect them to ensure I don't have a loose connection at the ribbon cable connections. If it still fails after reconnecting the ribbon cable, then I guess I'll order the parts and see what happens.

Again, thanks!
Gary

The voltage readings look good.

The membrane switch is self adhesive. I don't think you would be able to reuse it while it was removed. So there is some risk for you. You may want to replace the display board first. Maybe it will be enough to fix the problem.

Gene,

Thanks for your responses. I ordered both the Display Board and the Membrane Switch today. Do you have any recommendations on how to remove the Membrane Switch from the plastic housing it's installed in/attached to without damaging the plastic housing? TIA

Gary

Gary,

Remove the control box first. Unplug the ribbon cable from the display board. Start from a corner opposite the ribbon cable, using any tool (like flat screwdriver) and carefully rip off the old membrane switch.

Gene,

Want to thank you for all your assistance with repairing my fridge. The Membrane Switch fixed the latest problem and the fridge appears to be working fine. I plan to return the Display Board for a refund as it was not needed in order to fix the problem.

Again thanks and FYI, I've recommended this website to many family and friends based on my experience (all positive and extremely helpful) throughout my fridge repair process.

Regards,
Gary
