dishwasher stops during cycle. The rinse and hold starts flashing and appears to continue to run. It smells like the drain pump is getting hot. Once it cools down it will drain and appear to run normal. The bottom of dishwasher is dry so the switch is not setting off from water. I tested the switch on the bottom and works normal. What do you think needs replacing the pumps are expensive. I believe flashing rinse and hold is a drain problem.
Any ideas
Thanks
John

Rinse and hold flashing is indeed a drain problem...What switch are you refering to, and how did you test it?

there is a switch on bottom with a strofoam disk that detects water. That was my problem when this happened before. I replaced switch then. Now I test with a meter and switch is operatioanl. I don't want to start replacing stuff unless I know what is broken
Thank

Does it seem to drain normal, meaning nothing plugged up, but will continue to run the drain pump when the tub is empty.

the drain pump appears to run but not pushing any water. The dishwaser still has water in it. I replaced the panel circut board before. Still seams to run with water in the dishwasher

The fault code indicates that the washer has not drained within 5 minutes, If you have an airgap at the sink check for a clog, if it's connected directly to the disposer check there for a clog. If the pump is running, but not draining, you have a clog somewhere. Check those areas first.

Next place to check would be the sump, the sump is to the left of the spray arm, take the screens off and check down in there for something plugging the drain hole.

I removed the drain hose. Nothing plugged there. The drain pumps does work but it seems that it gets hot. Something is plugged not letting it drain????

Put the drain hose in a bucket, will it drain? Check the sump for objects blocking the drain.

I went and got a new air gap. I checked the hose appears ok. the sump has nothing in fingers length.
I run the rinse and hold, it fills and drains fine. When I use the normal wash cycle it fills ok, starts to wash, a few minutes go by, I can smell the drain pump while the washing is going on. then it stops and the rinse and hold starts to flash, drain pump continues for a few more minutes not pumping any water just running. there are no dishes or soap in the machine while I am doing this.
it is about 3 years old. Do I need a sledge hammer???
thanks for your time
