When we turn on the fan, the fan works but outside when I check the unit, the fan isn't running. I tried pulling out the fuse plug but does not seem like there is a fuse. I was hoping it would a simple fix like changing the fuse but not sure what else to try. Any suggestion?

Outdoor condensing fan motor has stopped running. This problem could be caused by a bad motor run capacitor. If your motor capacitor is not the problem, then more than likely you need a new motor. Is the fan blade tight, stiff or hard to turn? If the fan blade is hard to turn then you probably need a new motor

I have a similar problem. My fan turns by hand fine. When I turn on the unit, the fan spins and then blows the circuit breaker. I replaced the breaker = same result. So it's not the breaker. Would a failed capacitor cause the fan to spin and then blow the breaker?

Bad Fan Motor would do this.

Thanks Icehouse. I just had a pro check the condenser with a meter and he says the condenser is bad = new A/C unit. Does that seem consistent with it blowing the breaker each time it kicks on?

Like I said, the fan actually seems fine. It will turn on and spin each time just before the breaker blows.

The fan motors winding expands as it is running causing it to short thus blowing the breaker.
Why can't you replace just the fan motor ?
