My Hotpoint refrigerator is not cooling. After going through the forum, i took the back panel out and saw the coil covered with ice. I thawed the refrigerator and tested the defrost heater. Just by looking at it i knew it was bad. I replaced the defrost heater (AP4355467) and also defrost thermostat (AP3884317). After replacing the parts i see the heater lighting up and coil thawing. But, For some reason only the bottom part of my refrigerator is cooling. As part of my diagnostic process i test the continuity between J9 and J7. The reading i got was 4 ohms. I am at a lost at to what to try next.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

I dont understand what you mean when you say only the bottom part of fridge is cooling, I believe you fixed your defrost problem, common with GE made glass type heaters. But what needs to happen in a very brief explanation is , (A) the freezer has to have a temperature of 0-10 degrees (B) the evaporator fan motor must be working in the freezer to push air into the fresh food compartment. This airflow movement will create a temperature of 40 degress plus or minus five in the fridge. Its possible the path is restricted by frost build up, but not very common when just the heaters stop working.

i currently don't own a temp gauge. So i am not sure what the temp is. i am as baffled as you. The fresh food compartment is cold. It seem like the cold air is not circulating. One thing i haven't still done is put the back panel on. Do you think that might have something to do with the ptoblem?

I would highly suggest getting a cheap refrigerator thermometer. Yes, you are preventing proper airflow if you have that back panel off of the evaporator.
