There is play in the blade where it connects to the motor, while spining this play enables the blade to bang against the motor housing. Is there a
way to tighten the blade to eliminate the play?

Uninstall the fan motor. There should be a nut on the front of it. Hold the fan blade to keep the shaft from turning. Tighten nut. Should fix your problem. Hope this helps.:)

Thank you. Is the nut on the inside of the motor assembly? There isn't one on the post coming out of the housing. There is a flat metal part holing the blade onthe the motor, but I couldn't fiure out a way to tighten...

That is the nut. You will have to use needle nose pliers for this. I will put a picture of the motor and nut on here for you to see if yours looks like this.Part number: AP2111368
