No cooling at all. Fans run but compressor not working. Any thoughts where to start?

Go to the back of the refrigerator, and remove the main board from behind the access cover. Look on the back of the board, is there a burn mark, if so you can either resolder it or get a new board. post your findings

What actually hold the board once all the connectors are disconnected?

there are 4 plastic pin, just get needlenose pliers, and sqeeze the pin while pulling the board out.

I've removed a couple of connectors to get access to the board and it does have a burned terminal on it - can it be re-soldered with the other connectors in place?

Just take the wire connections off the board, they pull off, and can only go back on one way

Looks like the burned terminal is behind, what looks like, a relay box.

Yep, that is your compressor relay. Now you can resolder it, I would say it is probably a 50-50 shot of getting the solder to adhere, but it's worth a shot, or you can just purchase a new board and put it in. Here is the board you need-------->Part Details - GE Main board assembly, part number: WR55X10552
