I put a bathmat that gave off a lot of lint in my washer and it apparently clogged the drain/filter. Is there any way to unclog it myself or do I need a repairman for this job?

This is not too difficult job to do it yourself. Remove the washer cabinet and the water pump. Remove the hoses from the water pump and clean them. The pump is better to replace. Here are the complete instructions - How to remove the washer cabinet & the water pump. - The part number for the water pump is AP2907492 Here are the break down diagrams for the Roper washer Model RAS8244LQ0Gene.

Thanks so much, I'll give it a try this weekend. I just couldn't figure out how to get the cabinet off. Once I do that, the repair should be simple.

Gene,
followed your instructions (beautiful!) and was able to unclog the pump and get it back on. The washer is spinning and it drained without any clothes in it, but when I added a small load of wash I just can't get all the water to drain out. It almost seems like it's not spinning very hard/fast but it's hard to tell since I'm usually not watching it when this is going on!
Any other ideas? Thx!

nsimone1056,
Is it water inside or just wet clothes?
Did you check the pump impeller?
Gene.

smsix,
In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the washer.
