Spin cycle has operating "out of balance" for a while, causing the machine to "walk". Now it is making a loud "screeching" noise. I checked the belt and it seems to be working correctly. Could it be a bearing in the motor, or something else??

The first failure suspect is the bearing in the drain pump. Remove the belt and check how free the pump pulley is moving. - The part number for the drain pump is AP3447809 Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag washer Model PAV3300AWWGene.

If the pump is ok, you probably have a worn snubber; a sure indication of this is a lot of white shavings in the bottom of the washer.

Thanks. I removed the belt and was able to turn the pump pulley pretty easily -- it wouldn't "spin" (like a bicycle wheel), but there was no grinding noise either. I did notice the pulley was sort of loose -- I could move it back and forth a quarter inch or so, like it has some "play" in it. Should I go ahead and replace it and the belt?

I would recommend to replace the drain pump. The belt has to be replaced if it's worn.
Gene.
