Hello all,
I have a GE Model GSH22KGMBBB Side By Side refrigerator and had an issue where the unit was not cooling. Took off all the back covers inside the freezer and found the coils froze up..
Did research and tested the defrost heater. BAD. Went and bought new one locally and installed. Unit ran fine for week and half and now doing same thing.
What else could be the culprit? :confused:
Could it be:
Thermostat def
Part Number: AP3884317 made by GE

Can this be tested? If so what is the procedure? ;)
This has been getting frustrating.
BTW. Parts that I have found on here have been cheaper than other sites I have looked at... Plan on ordering It from here if this will help fix it..

In the back of the fridg., pull off the metal cover from the motherboard. Unplug fridg. and remove the four pin power connector. Note which pc board pins are labled "line and defr." Put a jumper between the same connector pins and plug in fridg. If it defrosts, replace motherboard and evaporator thermister. AP4436216 for motherboard, WR55X10025 for thermister.

I just got done doing what you said and thought at first it still wasn't working cause the element didn't heat up as fast as I thought. But sure enough open the door again and was glowing red. Other than MB, Is there not anything else that would stop it from working? Also I look at the parts list on here and could not find what you suggested for part "Evaportator Thermister WR55X10025". Is it not avalible here or is it called something else? Never mind, I found it.. Its called something else and with different part #. Sensor temp ff Part Number: AP3185407 made by GE Thanks for your help.. Will reply when new outcome. Thanks ;)

Replace the evaporator thermister, same part # but clipped to the evaporator tubing up top!!

EDIT: Well scratch that above. After I posted this I went back in there and looked at it and the defrost heater was 'ON'. So this rules out MB.
I took some pictures to show cause not sure this is normal or not the way it looks.
Also the fan back there is making a reving noise. You know when you rev an engine?? Throttle then let off then again etc.. Never noticed before but would that cause what is shown in the pic.. Click thumb to enlarge!!

The evaporator motor should not be on when defrosting. Replace the motherboard.

Listen to the man already... replace your motherboard. Looks to me like you have one of those rare conditions where it's trying to cool AND defrost at the same time. Where does that all happen... at the motherboard.
