I have a window unit that is freezing up. What could the problem be?

If the unit is freezing up then the coils are probably dirty. So clean em up with a nice cooling coil cleaner. Ace hardware has a very nice product called foaming cooling coil cleaner. Another thing could be the thermostat is bad. Do this simple test: Dip the probe into a glass of ice water. This will make the compressor shut down. If the compressor continues to run then replace the thermostat. FYI: If the compressor runs constantly then sooner or later the whole ac will ice up.
