My over the range microwave just stopped heating food. Everything else works and there is no buzzing noise. Just sounds normal when in use. I was working some yesterday but it was almost at though it was taking longer to cook however now nothing.

Check the power at the outlet. It suppose to be 120 VAC ± 10% under a load. If it's less then the microwave would not work.

If there is nothing wrong then the problem most likely is a bad magnetron.

What is the complete model number of the microwave?

Does it make any unusual noise? Does the light, the cooling fan and the turntable still work?

Remove the top grill. Open the control panel. Discharge the high voltage capacitor. Remove the wires from the high voltage transformer primary windings and check for 120 VAC between these wires while the control calls for heat and the door is closed.

If there is no proper voltage then the problem most likely is a bad control board.

If there is 120 VAc reading then the magnetron is the culprit.

- The magnetron Part number: AP2631638
Part number: AP2631638

- The control board Part number: AP2631621

Thanks Gene... I was thinking about a new microwave over before I read your post. I followed your instructions and it was the magnatron after all. It was questionable since it read ok. However, since I did get the 115V going to the primary side of the transformer. It was either it or the magnatron. Many thanks...Chungster

You are welcome. I'm glad you were able to fix it. Thank you for your feed back and good luck with your microwave.
