My Maytag dryer has stopped shutting off. For the most part-it has also stopped heating. It seems to decide when it will heat. The timer doesn't advance on the more dry/less dry settings and doesn't even start the machine on one of those settings. The timed dry settings run and the timer advances but the clothes seldom dry and the machine doesn't turn itself off. I bought a Maytag thinking it would last but I have had it for less than 5 years and it was seldom used during 2 of those years! Please help!!

The model number you posted is incorrect. Looks like this is the timer model number. Verify and repost it.

Sorry for the delay.

This model number looks much better.

Sounds like the dryer is cycling on the high limit thermostat instead of cycling thermostat. If this is true, then there is no power to the timer motor which is coming through the cycling thermostat when it turns off the heat.

The first thing I would do is make sure the vent is clean all the way trough the outlet and the blower wheel is not slipping on the motor shaft.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for MAYTAG MDG308DAWW Dryer - Gas | AppliancePartsPros.com
