This is a Maytag Gas Dryer, Model #SDG2606AWW.
The dryer spins but does not get any heat.
I have replaced the thermal fuse as well as the thermostat (as suggested earlier). It is still not working.
I took the lower front panel off. While it is running, I start to hear a buzzing and the element gets bright red then cools off. But, there is no ignition of the flame. The element cycles forever from bright red to cold without ever igniting the flame. What is going on here?
And what makes it even more confusing is: I just turned the dryer on to see if there was a flame. THERE IT IS! The flame is working. But, after 5 minutes it goes back to the same cycle of heating and cooling the element without ignition.
The exhaust is absolutely lint free and the gas line is open. I tried to reset the fuse going to the power outlet, but that does not do anything either.
Please help....

I do very little work on gas dryers but your problem sounds like a classic case of sensor and/or coils issues. Here is a service manual which will have a troubleshooting table for your problem and instructions on how to replace the suspect parts. http://www.servicematters.com/m...ibrary/docs/16023020.pdf
