The right front burner on my Kenmore smooth-top range will not turn off! This is the dual-element burner and only the small inner burner is faulty. Form a search and other info, it seems likely that the infinite switch for this burner is toast and needs to be replaced. Does this sound right? I can't find this model on the site, so I can't tell if the part is available or not. Can anyone help me identify the right part? How difficult is the repair? Are there any tricks or gotchas in the disassembly of this model? I assume that I only need to take down the control panel area. Thanks for any help!

Hi Rob, There is no infinite switches for this burner. It operates by the power board inside the control panel on the right side. Looks like this power board has to be replaced and I would recommend to replace it together with the potentiometer (under the knob). - The part number for the power board is AP2126657 - The part number for the potentiometer is AP2126660 Gene.

Thanks for the quick response. Ouch, that's an expensive part! Is is possible that only the pot is faulty and that replacing it would solve the problem? I'd hate to buy the $126 part only to find that it isn't really bad. Is there any simple way to test it? Thanks.

Rob,
The first failure suspect is the power board and I recommended to replace the potentiometer just to make the repair more reliable and to save possible shipping charges in case it's bad too.
Gene.
P.S. There is no way to test it without the service manual and Sears kept them as a top secret.
