The compactor goes down, but stops at the bottom of the stroke and the motor just hums. No reverse. The compactor previously did this and stripped the teeth off of the gear drive sproket which I replaced. I also replaced the centrifugal switch, but it still does not reverse. Any other ideas? I'd appreciate any help....

Possible the reverse switch gone bad. For more accurate advise we need the complete model number of the trash compactor.

The GE Compactor I am struggling with is a GE model CGC950T-03.
Where is the "Reverse switch?" I have found several switches (Interlock - the one that trips when the drawer is open? the start switch, as well as the upper limit switch and one other that trips when the ram is all the way up) As I said, I already replaced the centrifugal switch with a brand new one from GE. I had assumed that this switch served to tell the motor when to reverse. Is this not the case? Agani, I appreciate the help. I just don't want to replace this thing as 12 inch models are hard to find and expensive and I cannot fit a 15 inch model...

What's the solution for masher stuck at bottom with the door open?
My compactor wasn't working that well and I was trying investigate if the masher fully went down. I opened the compactor and press the start button and it went all the way to the bottom and just stopped there without anymore continuous motor noises.
I'm guessing it's a safety "trip" as well but I can't seem to find the bypass/ Interlock? switch to reverse it back. Am I just not seeing it right or my old unit doesn't have a reverse bypass switch for situation like this.

Thanks for replying ASAP.

Davis

Hi Davis,

I can not find the wiring diagram for this model. It might help if you have one and you can post it.

Gene,

I found out the fix on my own with a little bit of investigaive reporting:) .

My old trash compactor doesn't have a nice bypass trigger sticking out like a sore thumb right in the front like my neighbor's. Popped out the bag holder off the rail and after removing some stuff that was covering the rail-way, noticed the safety/bypass trigger and then pressed against it and... you guessed it...Voila!

Davis,

I'm glad you were able to fix it.
