My samsung side by side was not cooling appropriately in the refrigerator side, so I called Samsung. They directed me to a local repair person. He arrived, with friend in tow, and after several calls to Samsung decided the problem had to be the control panel. He ordered the part and came to install it a week later. Without friend. Since this did not correct the problem, he returned and installed a thermostat with friend again. Within a day or so I realized that the water dispenser was not working and called the repair shop again. The person who came was not the origninal repair person but was the friend who had been with the repairman when he diagnosed the original problem. He discovered that there was an accumulation of ice at the bottom of the coil/cover and told me to use a hair dryer to melt the ice. It continued to freeze, I would use the hair dyer, and this went along for until December when I began hearing popping noises from the refrigerator and slowly the drawers were being pushed out from the back. I felt along the side of the coil cover and discovered a solid block of ice. I called the repair shop. Still another person came out, but he does seem to know more about the product. When he removed said coil/cover the coils are a solid block of ice over half way to the top of the coil. He checked the "thermomister" (??) and it is fine. He said will need to replace the coil/cover and was quite concerned about the cost. (I checked and the price is $30.70.I have since priced the cost of replacing the cooling/defroster coils too, and the total cost is still under $100.) He left and assured me he would check on the parts and problem. It is three days later, and he is still checking. (I called him. Bless caller ID)

Now, it is clear that the moisture the heater converts to water has not been draining to the pan beneath the freezer. I ran a piece of flexible material (lawn trimmer cord) up the drain hole and it stops about 10" in. I am currently melting the ice off the coils and wondered if someone can tell me where the drain hole is. I can see the bottom of the area beneath the coil and do not see a drain hole. Maybe it has debris in it.

As an added element. I have noticed in the past two weeks that when I close the refrigerator, the system does not suck the door tight. I hope this makes sense and someone can help me.

I have RB215 LASH, Drain hole is right below the coils. A metal sloped tray is there to collect fluid and direct to hole in the center.
There should be a root cause for ice formation on coils. It's seems like problem is not solved yet. I don't think the drain hole is plugged.

No need to replace the coil covers.... Is the Evaporator fan running ? It's right above the coil...look and see if it's turning.

Did he OHM out the defrost heater, did he OHM out the Defrost thermostat,(which is attached to the coil, small bi-metal bulb).

Was the defrost timer checked?

How often is it freezing up? Everyday?

Defrost timer, is engaged every 8-10 hours of operation of running time, depending on your model. Once this cycle is started, (know as Harvest mode), the evaporator fan, compressor, and condenser motor will stop running, and the defrost heater will turn on and melt the ice off the coil.

Post back with some more info.

RB215LASH has similar problem. Now Freezer ok, refrig temp 50 deg.
checked:
- heater resistance ok
- thermistor resistance ok measured at cold and room temp
- evaporator fan works ok

after complete defrost it worked fine for 2 weeks but now back again
same problem. Probably, large ice block again behind the panel on coil inside refrig section.

there is no timer in this model . it's probably part of control bd.
what is next to replace? control bd? or call Samsung tech for help.

I have changed the control bd (defrost timer is part of it). But it's building up ice back again. So far it works for last 2.5 weeks.
Next step not sure what to do.

I had the same problem and yesterday spent the entire day de-icing then removing the panel. The drain is in the back under the coil assembly. It was iced up. I used an ice pick and hot water but never found the bottom of the drain. I believe that there is an opening on the side of the drain that keeps air from re-entering the coil area. Eventually the water that I poured in drained.

I had all of the symptoms that you described. The ice forced the panel out, pushed the drawers to the door, and would not let the door close.

I now am unable to reinstall the two "moisture control covers.” Any ideas how they go in?

Sincerely,
Ken

I,too, have had this problem since Nov. I have now taken out all the screws, most of the freezer racks, so I can check for ice accumulation. My water reservoir freezes up, until defrost cycle (which lasts up to an hour or more). I took out the vegetable drawer, pulled the reservoir around to side next to freezer, but it continues to freeze at intervals. Even after I defrosted the fridge, the bottom of refrigerator side felt really cold. I did have both freezer and fridge drains stopped up with ice, and it took forever with hairdryer, pipecleaners, and thin wire to unstop fridge side. I have replaced evap fan in freezer, both work now..drains clear, the ice makes, then melts during defrost. The freezer temp always blinks during defrost. The water dispenser usually doesn't work during this time. I think it freezes up so quickly after this, that the water doesn't have time to drain, so starts the build up again. Think I should get a new board? (There are no samsung service people within 60 mi.& no one else will touch it) As for the moisture covers, they slide in the slim indentions, directly above the tray and below it. If it has the words, moisture cover, that faces the front.
