GE Washer fills with water and stops. Will not agitate. Can manually spin the timer. Drains properly. Refills on rinse cycle. Spins properly. What would cause washer to stop and not agitate, but drains, spins, and rinses just fine. Is the timer or control panel bad? When the washer stops after filling to the proper water level it stops completely and there is no noise from the timer, it can only be advanced manually. Model # WHDSR209D2WW.

Take off the front panel by inserting a screw driver in the gap between the top and the front near the edges to release the clips that hold the front panel on.
You can now observe the motor during the agitation cycle. If the motor is turning, or if it turns when the belt is taken off the transmission pulley then the problem is in the transmission, and given the cost of that repair I do not think it is economical to replace it.
If the motor is not turning, check the wiring to it from the timer, and if all is ok the timer may be the problem.
